Experiencing Power and Protection Through Submission

Although this may be contrary to what our culture teaches, authority is one of the greatest blessings we can receive. There is an incredible amount of power received by being under authority. However, many individuals want the power without the submission. But it doesn’t work like that.

No one likes to be told what to do. Everyone wants to be their own boss. When you look around, it appears rebellion is at an all-time high. Children and teenagers become angry at those who are trying to steer them in the right direction. Women rebel against male leaders who they claim are “dictating their lives”. Riots break out across our country when our president doesn’t make the correct decisions.

We’ve forgotten that authority has been given to us as a blessing. Yes, a good thing. A gift. Protection. Even Satan and his demons recognize and respond to authority.

I believe God has given us earthly authorities to help us better understand spiritual authority. Recently, friends of ours had spent time praying with a young lady who wasn’t raised in a Christian home. She later made a statement regarding the difference it made when this husband and wife team prayed over her rather than just an individual or another group. Why did she recognize a difference? Why did their prayer feel more powerful? I believe it was because of the authority structure that was demonstrated in the marriage of this couple. Let me ask you, do you want more power and protection in your life? If so, I want to urge you to learn to embrace authority.

Jesus was all man and all God, yet He lived under His Father’s authority. He did or said nothing without first hearing it from His Father. In John 5:30 Jesus says, “But I do nothing without consulting the Father. I do just as I am told. My judgment is absolutely just because it is according to the will of God, who sent me. It’s not merely my own.” Jesus Himself lived under authority.

When God created mankind, He placed the earth under our authority. In Psalms 8:5-8, we can read about this dominion and how we’re created just a little lower than the angels. But it isn’t until we become believers in Jesus that we have power over Satan and his demons. Those who aren’t living for God are directly under the influence and attacks of the enemy. But, at salvation, we are set free to live in the power and authority God gives us rather than living under Satan’s authority.

The chain of authority changes when you are a child of God. If you are not a follower of Jesus, Satan and his demons will have greater authority in your life.

Through Jesus Christ, we have been given authority over the Enemy. And Satan hates that. He hates Believers, and he hates authority and the protection we receive from living under authority. This is why he will do everything he can to undermine and cause us to balk at authority.

There is a constant battle for authority going on in the spiritual realm. The kingdom of darkness is constantly fighting God’s kingdom of authority. Good versus evil. Those involved in the occult crave the authority to control things. They understand how their power in the spirit realm can affect every other realm.

Demonic forces will always be fighting against God’s anointed. Satan’s biggest fear is that Believer’s will exercise the power of their God-given authority. And in doing so, he will be dramatically hindered. So why aren’t we tapping into this power?

We can override the confusion and authority of darkness in our lives when we make our relationship with Jesus Christ more important than anything else. The next way to overthrow darkness is by walking in our dominion of power and authority. God doesn’t just do what He wants on earth. He has given mankind this authority, and He wants His kingdom to be done through us. God provided everything that was needed through the cross and His spirit, and He wants to use individuals who are living under authority to release His power.

We can’t walk in God’s authority if we’re not living under God’s authority.

Authority structure is a beautiful thing. In earth’s realm as well as the spiritual. We need to be showing respect and honor to those who are in authority over us. Our president, state laws, the police force, government officials, and the leader of our homes.

Authority is a beautiful gift from the Father. Embrace it. Walk in it.
