Introducing…”From Pain to Purpose”

Change isn’t always easy. Or comfortable! We have found out that a greater faith and trust in God is needed during the uncomfortable times of change. It’s not easy to “step out” in faith when God calls us to refocus our direction in ministry. We’re finding that out right now. We’ve stepped out of the “boat.”

However, our family is currently experiencing a greater peace and fulfillment as we’ve heeded God’s calling to some adjustments in our ministry outreach.

For some time, we’ve been sensing God calling us to a deeper ministry as we are sharing in prisons and churches. We saw God at work in people’s heart and lives as we’ve shared a bit of our journey, yet, we never had time to help hurting individuals as they opened their hearts to us. We know we will never be able to give adequate time to everyone as we’d like, but we desire to assist in a greater way in helping hurting people connect with the Great Heart-Healer.

As our family has experienced heart-wrenching pain and loss, we’ve asked many questions while searching for the purpose of our pain.  “From Pain to Purpose” has been birthed out of our personal journey. Nothing gives us greater joy than when we can passionately share with others how God has brought, and continues to bring, healing to our lives. Although we are aware that our quest for complete healing will never be completed until we are face to face with Jesus, we’ve found that  joy and purpose is possible in the midst of life’s disappointments, trials, and losses.

We have, at times, struggled with bitterness, anger, depression, and defeat, but our deeply rooted belief is that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all good. We are assured, that one day, He will destroy everything that is evil and will reward those who finish their “race” well. Our goal is to walk alongside and encourage those who are struggling to “stay the course” because of their pain and disappointments along the way. We long to expose the lies of the enemy as he attempts to bring destruction to many lives during their most vulnerable times.

We agree whole-heartedly with Jerry Sittser when he writes: “Life is different after loss. Some things are better; some are worse. We can never change the loss itself, but we do have many choices. We can wallow in guilt or regret and become bitter and depressed. “The difference between despair and hope, bitterness and forgiveness, hatred and love lies in the decisions we make about what to do about an unchangeable or painful past.” –Grace Disguised

We are working as an extension of Gospel Express Ministries, and Duane has been released from direct prison ministry administrative responsibilities. However, he will continue to serve as an advisor as we are moving forward with the theme “From Pain to Purpose.” Our family singing ministry will be a part of this theme, as well as our website and blog, and we are also expanding our teaching and counseling ministry. Our tours will include both churches and prisons. We will be visiting fewer places, generally staying longer at each place. This will give us more time to personally connect on deeper levels with individuals.

With the blessing and direction from both our parents, Nelson Coblentz, and the Gospel Express board of directors, we are now going to be an extension of Gospel Express discipleship ministry. Gospel Express is assisting us with guidance, counsel, and will be supporting us financially during this transition time. Our “From Pain to Purpose” committee will oversee our schedule and is responsible for pursuing our financial support.

Getting out of the “boat” has taken courage, but “walking on the water” and looking to Jesus for what seems impossible is giving us the opportunity for a greater faith and trust in God…our Jehovah-Jirah. He is bigger, and He is able! After all, Jesus is our Great Storm-walker.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor. 4:17-18)

From our Committee:

With each bend in the road, God reveals a little more of His plan for our lives. The path we traveled yesterday, in many ways, prepares us for the opportunities and challenges He has planned for us farther down the road. God, in His sovereignty, has allowed Duane, Cindy, and their family to walk a path that has prepared them to identify with and minister to those who are experiencing deep pain and emotional hurt in their lives. It is their desire to use their life experiences to bring hurting individuals in contact with the healing power of God.

We, as a committee, would be honored if you choose to partner with us, and the Mullett Family, in the development of “From Pain To Purpose.” Your prayers are vital as the Mulletts reach out to the hurting and broken, whom this world has cast aside. Their ministry is only made possible as God provides finances through the generosity of friends like you. Your prayerful consideration and giving will allow us to impact the lives of hurting people for God’s glory.

Thank You so much for your contribution to “From Pain to Purpose.”

May God Richly Bless You,

Dwain Martin,
“From Pain to Purpose” committee member

God bless you in this new outreach. Your family has been such an inspiration to us. When I read of how you..stepped out of the boat..I just had to share something with you. On Wednesday morning I had three visions. I had a headache so after breakfast dishes were done and my guys were off to work, I laid down and slept some more. When I woke and was still laying there I had these visions. For what we’re doing right now I knew what the first vision meant but the other two I’m still waiting for God to show me. In the vision I was walking on the water, in a storm. I climbed into a rather high wooden boat and then Jesus was there. I didn’t see him clearly but I sensed His presence. Then He said…. peace, wait and be still. Then I thought or heard…I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. That was all I remember. I looked it up then in Ps.27: 13-14…What a comfort..I knew that Jesus had given me a clear word. God is so good and I pray for His peace, courage, wisdom and strength into your lives. May He especially bless the work you’re doing in His kingdom.

    John & Liz,
Oh, we have such great memories of you dear folks as well!!! We were so BLESSED by your kind hospitality and warm welcome to our family during the week of treatment out there in California. It was a tough week…We were learning so much and Austin wasn’t feeling very well, but your home was always such a welcoming place to come back to. We think of you all at different times and hope you’re both doing well. It’s a blessing to hear from you again! We love and appreciate you guys!
